Learn how to knit a blanket from amazing giant wool with Emily – founder of The Chap and Darling Knit Shop!

You’ll be working with Woolly Mahoosive’s Mahoosive acrylic yarn, so big you use your arms as needles! 2kgs of yarn is included in the price of the workshop, which should give you a blanket 75 x 125cm (or you can make a thinner double bed runner) and you’ll be finished in the time it takes to do the workshop. Join Mec and Marcia, yarn and felt super stars and founders of Yarnarama who will be hosting their Easter Egg felting workshop.

Using organic, naturally dyed Merino Wool fibre, soap and water, you’ll rub the fibres together and form them into egg shapes. You can make up to 3 eggs! Keep them for yourself, or gift them.

If you haven’t tried felting, now’s your chance! This super relaxing craft is great to unwind with a glass of wine or perfect for the kids to practice a new craft…while you enjoy a glass of wine!

In this fun 2 hour workshop you will learn the traditional rope knotting technique of Macramé by making your very own plant hanger to take home.

You will be guided through each stage of the process, using a variety of knots to create your hanger. Everything you need will be provided and after two hours of crafting fun you will leave feeling the buzz of creating something with your own hands and with the skills to recreate them at home.

This workshop is ideal for plant lovers who want to create beautiful displays for their growing collection of houseplants!

Become a toy maker for the day with Fany, the founder of Les Petits Félix, founder of Les Petits Felix – The wooden toys workshop
THE BUNNY AND ITS TRIBE : Make and customise a fabric Teepee & personalise your wooden bunny character with Native Indian Props.

What will you be provided with?

  • 1 Teepee kit : 1 plain 100 % cotton tent (choose 1 from among 3 colours) to paint with provided stamps stamps : leaf, star, sun, cloud, zigzag, moon. 5 wooden sticks with cord to build the teepee structure1
  • Teepee kit (above) + 1 wooden bunny + props : Head band with felted feathers to plug Indian stick to customise with : ribbons, wool threads, felted leaves, feather and fish.

What will you take home from this workshop?

  • A unique wooden toy set
  • Basics knowledge of birch plywood, FSC source & mills How each toy is cut, the sanding process and the different grits used to obtain a perfect and smooth finish. There will be sanded and un-sanded parts for you to feel the difference. – Guidance to associate colours, patterns and textures to make a trendy and unique toy to play with or as a room decoration.
  • Play with eco-friendly materials: wool, cotton fabric, FSC wood, paint (All certified – child safe).

Feminist embroidery workshop – 15th June

Friends, feminists and crafters, lend us your ears! Always wanted to try embroidery but don’t know where to start? Come learn embroidery with Niamh from Wimperis Embroidery.

Niamh been an embroidery artist for over 5 years, champion embroidery as a calming act of self care and she has most recently been seen on the BBC2 program The Victorian House Of Arts and Crafts.

In this Feminist Embroidery Workshop Niamh will teach you 5 key stitches that can be used in lots of different ways. She has designed 3 new patterns for you to choose from, “feminist”, “grow”, and “shine”. You’ll be stitching on 100% cotton using DMC embroidery threads. Pick your pattern and your thread colours and Niamh help with the rest. This is a 2 hour workshop, and you’ll get to keep your work, including your own 4” Elbese embroidery hoop (a small company who make world renowned embroidery hoops, they’re actually based in the village that Niamh’s grandparents live!).

Come and spend an afternoon learning fabric printing with print maker Mai from YAY London and illustrator Francesca Tiley

Kids from 6yrs and up are welcome to come and unleash their creativity for 2h30 of fun. Drop off your kids or join them on this colourful session, it’s totally up to you!

“We will teach your kids what screen printing is and we will guide them through the process. They’ll print onto fabric themselves and have the chance to show their creativity by customising their design afterwards. We have some great organic cotton superhero capes and fabric pens to make their designs really stand out. We work with water based inks and non toxic product to keep your little ones safe”

Fonthill Road Festive Market – Saturday 1st December 2018

Fonthill Road Fashion Village will play host to a spectacular festive pop-up market on Saturday 1 December along Fonthill Road, London, N4 3JH. FREE entry for all ages!

The Collective – a makers market, Fonthill Road Fashion Village and Islington Council have worked together to organise a community focused street market that will be packed with fine artisan food, street food and beverages, plus original designs and products from local & London based designer makers.

Expect to be inspired by hand made accessories, textiles, beauty products, ceramics, artwork, botanicals and more alongside affordable clothing brands and accessories from “fashions best kept secret” Fonthill Road Fashion Village.

Fonthill Road will become vehicle-free on the day to make space for over 40 independent London traders and free creative workshops for the whole family!

Free creative workshops will run between 12-4pm including:

Origami tree decoration – Learn the delicate art of paper folding

Screen printed tote bag – Print a pattern onto your own cotton bag

Festive botanical decoration – Make your own personalised festive glass bauble

Fonthill road market

There will be so much on offer at the Fonthill Road festive market on 1 December

On the day, there will be music from local DJ’s, live musicians and singers accompanied by dancers and performers between 11-6pm
