We are collaborating with Royal Arsenal Farmers Market & GCDA to bring a Makers Market and Creative Workshops to the Royal Greenwich Get Together – Community Festival and Armed Forces Day

In this 30 min workshop you’ll learn how to make summer festival crepe paper flowers with Mary Jane Makes, author of Chic on a Shoestring and The Modern Girl’s Guide to Hat Making. In this 30 min workshop you will learn how to make a gorgeous crepe paper flower that can be used on a summer floral headdress, a buttonhole, or why not add a little personal touch to a wrapped gift for someone! 

Mary Jane Baxter is a milliner, maker and writer. She’s currently writing a new book called Sew on the Go all about her adventures around Europe in her amazing Mobile Makery. This woman is an all round creative genius, arrive early to book your time slot!

We are collaborating with Royal Arsenal Farmers Market & GCDA to bring a Makers Market and Creative Workshops to the Royal Greenwich Get Together – Community Festival and Armed Forces Day

GCDA Community gardener Kevin Godby will be hosting a drop workshop where you and your family / friends can learn how to make a paper pot in seconds and take home your new creation with a little seedling. You’ll be able to use this skill home and say goodbye to plastic pots and slugs lurking in the pile of old pots in the garden! This simple, cost effective process will also create much less root disturbance at planting out time and is great for young gardeners development of fine motor skills!

Kevin will also be bringing a selection of rooted mint cuttings, spring onions and watercress as well as soaked peas (the type intended for cooking to make mushy peas) to show you how easy it is to grow food to eat!

This workshop will show you how easy it is to grow produce at home, even with next to no space and minimal cost!

Sharing smiles is an all ages workshop created to help people feel connected in the community. Write a letter, tell a joke, draw a funny picture – whatever you want to help to cheer someone up in Greenwich.

Join Mec and Marcia, yarn and felt super stars and founders of Yarnarama who will be hosting their Easter Egg felting workshop.

Using organic, naturally dyed Merino Wool fibre, soap and water, you’ll rub the fibres together and form them into egg shapes. You can make up to 3 eggs! Keep them for yourself, or gift them.

If you haven’t tried felting, now’s your chance! This super relaxing craft is great to unwind with a glass of wine or perfect for the kids to practice a new craft…while you enjoy a glass of wine!

Pick your favorite colour and get felting! This workshop is suitable and welcome to adults & accompanied children from 5+.

Feminist embroidery workshop – 15th June

Friends, feminists and crafters, lend us your ears! Always wanted to try embroidery but don’t know where to start? Come learn embroidery with Niamh from Wimperis Embroidery.

Niamh been an embroidery artist for over 5 years, champion embroidery as a calming act of self care and she has most recently been seen on the BBC2 program The Victorian House Of Arts and Crafts.

In this Feminist Embroidery Workshop Niamh will teach you 5 key stitches that can be used in lots of different ways. She has designed 3 new patterns for you to choose from, “feminist”, “grow”, and “shine”. You’ll be stitching on 100% cotton using DMC embroidery threads. Pick your pattern and your thread colours and Niamh help with the rest. This is a 2 hour workshop, and you’ll get to keep your work, including your own 4” Elbese embroidery hoop (a small company who make world renowned embroidery hoops, they’re actually based in the village that Niamh’s grandparents live!).

Become a toy maker for the day with Fany, the founder of Les Petits Félix, founder of Les Petits Felix – The wooden toys workshop
THE BUNNY AND ITS TRIBE : Make and customise a fabric Teepee & personalise your wooden bunny character with Native Indian Props.

What will you be provided with?

  • 1 Teepee kit : 1 plain 100 % cotton tent (choose 1 from among 3 colours) to paint with provided stamps stamps : leaf, star, sun, cloud, zigzag, moon. 5 wooden sticks with cord to build the teepee structure1
  • Teepee kit (above) + 1 wooden bunny + props : Head band with felted feathers to plug Indian stick to customise with : ribbons, wool threads, felted leaves, feather and fish.

What will you take home from this workshop?

  • A unique wooden toy set
  • Basics knowledge of birch plywood, FSC source & mills How each toy is cut, the sanding process and the different grits used to obtain a perfect and smooth finish. There will be sanded and un-sanded parts for you to feel the difference. – Guidance to associate colours, patterns and textures to make a trendy and unique toy to play with or as a room decoration.
  • Play with eco-friendly materials: wool, cotton fabric, FSC wood, paint (All certified – child safe).
  • Nurture your imagination through small world play: develop creative thinking skills and language building. You are imagining, and while doing so I will encourage you to talk out loud and using vocabulary. You will create a life scene to play with and bring back home.
